AFTERLIFE

Where does our data go when we die? In an age where we generate more digital traces than ever before, could we be digitally immortalised?

Afterlife is a speculative artwork by Sebastian Koseda that explores how AI and our expanding digital footprints might shape the way we, and our loved ones, experience death, memory and legacy.

Afterlife - Ai Headstone Systems

Afterlife imagines a digital memorial that transcends the traditional headstone.

The concept proposes an AI replica of a recently deceased friend or relative, created by training a model on the data they generated throughout their life, their online footprint.

Using existing photographs, the system constructs a 3D digital avatar of the deceased, displayed on the headstone and brought to life through animation.

This avatar reflects the individual’s personality, from conversational style and language patterns to memories and areas of knowledge.

Afterlife suggests a future where friends and family could continue to communicate with a lost loved one, sharing stories, revisiting favourite music, food and films, and reflecting on meaningful life events.
